Homesick

God's word reminds us that this world is not our home. Do you ever feel like a stranger...like an alien...like you're not sure where to park for a while? It's really a GOOD thing. I don't want to be settled/complacent. But why is it so hard sometimes? And how on earth do you explain it to someone?!! Maybe my blog will help you understand. I hope you enjoy.

Chiamka turns 1

My Nigerian friend, Lillian, threw a birthday party at the church for her daughter, Chiamaka. You may remember pictures of them from the past. You may also remember from those picture that she did not have hair quite like this. She had cute African curly hair. Then it got hot this summer so they shaved her head completely. It is just now starting to grow back but it is still not long enough to do anything cute with. So if you are African, what do you do? You get fake hair and weave it in...even if you're only ONE! Apparently Chiamaka spent most of Saturday getting these hair pieces put into her hair. They said she cried and screamed the whole time. When they got home, they gave her pain relievers to help her sleep. CAN YOU IMAGINE??? Sometimes the things that Africans do to their babies shock me. Yet, millions of them survive so who am I to question?!
Chiamaka is tiny but started walking at only 10 months. She spent her party either dancing in the middle of the room or picking up balloons and popping them. The adults were forced (by the Spanish ladies from the church) to play odd games. It was the strangest 1-year-old party I've ever attended.
