Carry your cross

One of the parts of the "pasos" during Semana Santa is men carrying cross to pay for their sins. They trudge along for miles carrying these crosses ahead of the "float" with Jesus on the cross. The very serious ones do not talk to anyone and some ever do it barefooted as extra payment. They wear the veils so that people don't know who they are and won't distract them from their prayers. A few carried a rosary and seemed to be actually praying. Most just appeared to be part of the "parade" and talked to their friends in the crowd.
